Automotive FAQs

General Maintenance

  1. How often should I get my car serviced?
It depends on the make and model, but most vehicles should be serviced every 5,000 to 7,500 miles, or as recommended in the owner’s manual.
  2. What happens if I skip regular maintenance?
Skipping maintenance can lead to breakdowns, decreased fuel efficiency, and expensive repairs in the long run.
  3. What’s included in a basic car maintenance check?
A standard check includes an oil change, fluid level check, tire inspection, brake check, and air filter check.
  4. How do I check my vehicle’s maintenance schedule?
Your owner’s manual has a maintenance schedule, or you can ask us to look it up for you.
  5. How often should I replace my windshield wipers?
Wiper blades should be replaced every 6 to 12 months or when they leave streaks or make noise.

Oil & Fluids

  1. How often should I change my oil?
Conventional and semi-synthetic oil should be changed every 3,000miles, while synthetic oil lasts up to 5,000 miles.(We vary from some OE recommendations of full synthetic oil lasting up to 10,000 miles. The reason we recommend staying with 5,000 intervals is because most oil filters cannot last the 10,000 miles.)
  2. What type of oil does my car need?
The right oil depends on your car’s make and model. We can check your owner’s manual or we can recommend the best option.
  3. How often should I flush my transmission fluid?
Transmission fluid should be changed every 30,000-60,000 miles, but check your owner’s manual for exact recommendations.
  4. How do I know if my coolant needs to be changed?
If your coolant is discolored, has debris, or your engine is overheating, it’s time for a flush. Additionally, you can check your vehicle’s service recommendation schedule.
  5. How often should I change my brake fluid?
Brake fluid should typically be replaced every 2-3 years, as needed based upon inspection, or when the vehicle’s maintenance schedule calls for it to be done.

Brakes, Tires & Suspension

  1. How do I know when I need new brakes?
Signs include squeaking, grinding, longer stopping distances, or a soft brake pedal.
  2. How often should I rotate my tires?
Tire rotation is recommended every 10,000 miles to ensure even wear.
  3. When should I replace my tires?
Tires should be replaced when the tread depth is at, below, or nearing 2/32 of an inch. Also, if they show signs of cracking, bulging, or uneven wear.
  4. How do I check my tire pressure?
Use a tire pressure gauge or visit us for a free check. Proper tire pressure is usually listed in the driver’s door jamb.
  5. What are the signs my suspension needs work?
Symptoms include a bumpy ride, uneven tire wear, drifting during turns, or a nose-diving front end when braking.

Battery & Electrical

  1. How long does a car battery last?
Most car batteries last 3-5 years, but extreme temperatures and driving habits can affect longevity.
  2. How do I know if my battery needs to be replaced?
Signs include slow engine cranking, dim headlights, or frequent need for jump-starts.
  3. What should I do if my car won’t start?
Check if the battery is dead, listen for clicking noises, and try jump-starting. If the issue persists, visit us for a diagnostic.
  4. Why are my headlights dim or flickering?
It could be a weak battery, bad alternator, loose wiring, or a failing headlight bulb.
  5. How do I extend the life of my car battery?
Keep terminals clean, avoid excessive short trips, turn off lights when exiting, and test your battery regularly.
